 ADJUTANT’S MESSAGE

The year is coming to an end and there will be an election of Post officers at the next regular schedule meeting, Thursday, April 19, 2007.  The voting will start at 0700 hours and end at 1900 hours.  I will be running again for the position of Post Adjutant.  There are many of you who know my record as a Post Commander, District Command, District Service Officer, Department Vice Commander, Department VA&R Chairman, Department Hospital Chairman and a DAV Driver, who pick up veterans at their home and drive them to the VA hospitals for their appointments and returns them to their home when their appointments are finished.   If you feel that I have done a good job in the past, then give me your vote.

PAST COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

I want to inform everyone that I am a candidate for Adjutant this year. This is a position I feel is very important to the American Legion and its members. In order for you to vote for me, please look at my record in the past and the record of my opponents.  Someone has put up a poster in the Post that states that bad candidates are elected by members that do not vote but in my opinion members that do vote elect good candidates.  I have heard candidates making accusations against other candidates, not necessarily for the office they are running for but just the same, we should keep the election clean without innuendos, accusations or false information.  Also, remember you should vote for a person for the job they will do and not because they are your friend or you like or dislike them.  We elect people to do the job not because they are our friends.  The American Legion is an important organization and does many good things in the community, state and nation and you need the best possible people to represent you in this organization.  I think I have proven myself as Adjutant in the past and hope to in the future. I love this organization and serving the members and would like to continue into the future.  May god bless our organization and the United States of America.

Richard “Brooksie” Brooks, Past Commander

Happy Easter, Ladies!  Remember - All for one, one for all. Together we stand divided we fall.  Yours in friendship and service,

Ella Studrance, Unit President

The Auxiliary would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the many people who bought raffle tickets to help raise monies to send girls to Granite Girls State 2007. We raised $985.00, almost enough money to send 4 girls to Girls State. Due to a lack of space I am only listing the winners from the Post #6 family. Winners were drawn on March 8, during the Unit's monthly meeting.  Donna Gray who lives in Texas won The Lollipop Tree Gift Basket worth $55.00 (she was in town the following weekend to pick it up). Shirley Williams actually won two prizes, a $25.00 gift certificate to Abercrombie & Finch as well as a $25.00 gift certificate to The Dinnerhorn, such a Lucky Lady. Arthur "Pete" Barrett won the Dinner for Two at The Harbor's Edge in the Sheraton Harborside. Rick Sarno won the top prize, a beautiful Patriotic Quilt designed, and made by my sister, Lorna Goodwin. All prizes, worth approximately $900.00, were donated.

Text Box: Elections will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2007. Hours of voting are 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM for the Legion and the Squadron, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM for the Auxiliary. I hope everyone who comes to vote will remember to vote for the candidate who they think will best do the job. Neither friendship with nor dislike of a candidate should come into play when picking your officers for the upcoming year. The voting hours are lengthy, to afford members the greatest ability to stop in on their way to or from work to vote. It only takes about 6 minutes to get out of your car, go to the second floor of the Post home, vote and be on your way to work or to sleep. Pour that last cup of coffee at home in a travel mug and have it on your way to 96 Islington Street
