AUGUST 2005

 Commander -- Richard “Brooksie” Brooks

Commander’s Message

I want to thank Buddy Nicholas for a great Children's outing. We had a great turn out and everyone had a fun day. At the next Post meeting on August 18,2005 at 7:00 P.M. we will be proposing changing the time of the Post meeting from 7:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. This can be accomplished with a unanimous vote at that meeting.  We will also be having nomination and elections for our vacant offices at the next meeting. If you are interested, please be present or have a letter of intent to the Adjutant or myself. We have had a few problems with members parking in the no parking areas in the parking lot before 5:00 p.m.   Please avoid doing this.

We have heard that individuals at the V.F.W. are making allegations that someone has embezzled money from the Post.   I ask the party that is stating this to come forward with proof and we would love to investigate it and put to rest all misconceptions to this effect.  We are always concerned about any improprieties of this nature.

Richard “Brooksie” Brooks, Commander

Notice

On July 14, 2005 the Post Commander, Auxiliary President and Squadron Commander met to discuss issues in the organization.  Our consensus was the following:

We need to have more members of all the organizations present for wakes/preburials for members of all our units.  This is especially true for officers.  We have had a poor turnout in the recent past for these.

We need a cessation of Post, Auxiliary and Squadron business being discussed in the Grille.

We need to have members cease discussing Post, Auxiliary and Squadron business at the V.F.W.

We are serious on this matter and expect your cooperation.

 Richard “Brooksie” Brooks, Post Commander
Ella Studrance, Unit President
Drew Hogan, Squadron Commander

Adjutant’s Message

The Annual Old-Timers Softball Game is on Sunday, September 18, 2005 at the Middle School Baseball Field.  This month I will be going to the National Convention.  I go to these conventions to keep abreast of the American Legion and bring back to the Post useful information.  At present veterans are having problem with VA medical care. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has reported a shortage of needed funding to care for eligible veterans. The shortfall for this year is about $t2 billion.  House Appropriation - As members of Congress return to their states and districts for the summer recess with differences between VA funding levels pending before the House and Senate, conferees from both chambers must come to an agreement before the VA receives anything. Whichever approach is used to address the immediate fiscal needs of VA. Congress must act quickly to resolve this reprehensible situation. Moreover, looming is the fiscal 2006 gap attributed to the same weakness in VA’s funding methodology that led to this year’s unbelievable situation.  First I urge you to contact your Representatives to thank them for their efforts to ensure VA receives the additional funding needed to treat sick and disabled veterans.  Second I ask that you call upon Representatives to ensure the fiscal year 2006 increase of $3.35 billion remains in the conference agreement and to support increased funding to meet veterans’ health care needs.  Third tell your Representatives that VA’s method of forecasting budgetary needs has proven itself to be a failure, leaving thousands without vital health care.

George McCall – Adjutant

President’s Message

Hi Ladies – Hope you are all enjoying this weather.  By the time you get this newsletter the Children’s Outing will be over.  If you were there, you know what a nice time the children had.  They loved making their own ice cream sundaes, getting their face painted, the three-legged race, and digging in the sand pit for money.  A lot of time and energy went into making this outing a success, and we have a lot of adults to thank.  First I would like to thank the organizers, Buddy Nicholas, Shirley Williams, and Trish Buckman. Thanks to all the post members, S.A.L. members and Auxiliary members who helped to make this outing a success.  Our first unit meeting will be Thursday, September 8, 2005 at 7 p.m.   All Unit officers please plan on meeting with me at 6:30 p.m. prior to the regular meeting.  Come and have a voice at these meetings.   Help us to have a better unit.  Ladies, throughout this year I will try to give you a little bit of news or a little but of history, to keep you informed on what is going on with our members.  A Little Bit of News – Ruth Menard became a grandmother for the second time.  Her daughter, Tarina Menard gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on June 19, 2005 named Crystal Rose.  This President (Ella) also became a grandmother for the fifth time.  My daughter Allison Studrance gave birth to a handsome baby boy on June 28, 2005 named Rueben Charles.  Our Unit sends congratulations to the moms and grandmoms.  A Little Bit of History – Our Unit Color Guard won the State Championship and will go to Hawaii to compete in the National Competition.  Let’s all keep our fingers and toes crossed for them.  Good Luck, Ladies.  Remember Ladies,  “All for one and one for all. Together we stand, divided we fall.”

Ella Studrance, President
