COMMANDER’S
MESSAGE
The
American Legion baseball season took off this year and is moving so fast I
missed making any announcements in any of my previous newsletters.
I am sorry to report the regular season will be over by the time
you read this newsletter. More
so the state play offs might be over as well.
The good news this letter is in time, to back up one step just in
case, the state games will be held from July
24 – 28, 2009 in
Keene
,
NH
. Now, depending where
they place in state, you will be able to see them compete in the regional
games at Gill Stadium from August 6
– 10, 2009. To get the
start times of the games log onto nhlegion.org, click on legion baseball
and we are Senior District A. Frank
E. Booma Day will be held on Tuesday
August 11, 2009. The
celebration will start from the opening of the Grille and run until
7:00pm. This event will be
free to all Post, Unit and Squadron members of the Post and their bonifide
guests. Donuts and coffee will
be available until 11:00am, switching to finger sandwiches, cold salads
(potato/ macaroni) pickles and chips being served until 4:00pm finishing
with a B-B-Q. At last report
the Children’s Outing is on schedule, currently there are 34 children
registered and growing. If you
haven’t sent in your register slip yet, you still have time.
The Adult Outing is in the planning stage check out the Junior
Vice-Commanders column for more information.
The membership renewals are coming in by the wheel barrel full,
this is great news and is a direct reflection on the leadership of the
Post. We, as Post Officers are
working hard for you and appreciate the pat on the back for your continued
service. If you missed the
news segment aired in late July; “Veterans Health Care and the VA
Hospital in Manchester” the Concord Hospital has opened its doors to
help our VA Health Care in Manchester, by providing services that in the
past used to be outsourced to West Roxbury, Brockton, Togus and other VA
Hospitals. This is great news
for all of us. For more
information contact the Service Officer or VA Health care system, toll
free at 800-892-8384. For not
being in Lincoln NH for over 16 years and with the town growing, the
Department considered it a revisit as a test platform, (per say).
As it turned out, the convention was very informational and
enjoyable every Post in attendance enjoyed it so much that the Convention
Committee made reservations to hold there again for next year.
The color guard competition was very intense, 12 teams from around
the state showed up and brought their “A” Game.
It was refreshing to see all the precision and enthusiasm brought
to the field. The rifle teams
were very impressive. Unfortunately,
Frank E. Booma color guard did not place this year.
Dan Yoder said, “We have to refine our choreography and
precision, the competition was very tough this year.”
Yoder also said, “Even though the competition was an eye opener
to us, we have nothing to be ashamed of, the color guard has been around
for a long time but, since 1998, we achieved a record of three National
and eleven State Titles.” I
am researching a fund raiser for the Post.
It consists of selling advertising space within the news letter, if
you or a friend has a business and would like to advertise in the Post
newsletter, the cost is $5.00 per month or $50.00 per year. Send in a
business card with a check or money order to Frank E. Booma Post 6, in the
memo: news letter advertisement. The
advertising time starts and ends with the application date.
This newsletter is delivered to 1247 combined members of the Post.
We are continuing to sell label plates to be inlayed into the bar.
The sales were going good but, we still have room if you want one,
the price is $25.00 per label and measure 1 inch by 4 inches long.
If you have not purchased one please consider it so you will be
remembered, virtually forever.

VICE COMMANDER’S MESSAGE
The Children's Outing is coming up fast; it will be
on Sunday, August 23, 2009. It will be held at Chuck E. Cheese in
Newington
starting at 11:00 a.m. There will be pizza, soft drinks, cake & ice
cream along with some tokens for the children. The outing will be for
children 17 and under, plenty of games there for all. Chuck E. Cheese has
very strict rules regarding the children and parent/guardian; children
must leave with the same adult
they arrived with. Please use the sign up slip provided for names and
number of children and parent/guardian per family attending, to help us
meet Chuck E. Cheese safety/accountability rules. There is an envelope in
the grille for the sign up slips. The sooner the slips are in the better
for an accurate count of those attending.
The Adult Outing is going to be on Saturday, September 12, 2009
at the Post. Your membership card will be needed for free admission,
$10.00 for non-members and guests. There will be parking available at the

PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
I hope you are all having a great summer.
Because membership is so vital to the American Legion Family
Organizations, this message is directed to all family members that are not
members of the Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion or the Legion.
Please ask your non-member family members to read the following. Please
consider this a personal invitation to join our Organizations.
Through the dues of our members, this Auxiliary has had the monies
needed to run the Organization. We raise additional monies for the
scholarships that we give out as well as to send girls to
Girls
State
. If the girls go on to Girls Nation they are eligible to receive a
Samsung Scholarship. The monies for the Samsung Scholarship are derived
from the $5,000,000.00 given to the
United States
by Samsung Inc. The money was that company's way of saying "Thank
you" to the Servicemen and women of the United States Armed Forces
who served in
Korea
. We also try to send packages to the Servicemen and women overseas.
There are many things that we as members do in our everyday life
that can be reported to Department, who in turn reports to National a
synopsis of the information they receive. National then reports to
Congress, proving that we contribute to the Community, State and Nation.
Without these reports Congress could shut this Organization down.
A short list of things we do that are reportable are anything to do
with Girl Scouts, Immunizations, Child Safety, Substance Abuse Prevention,
Blood Drives, First Aid, Helping the homeless Veterans, the elderly and
victims of abuse. Also, Environmental Protection, community
beautification, neighborhood watch, Literacy programs, and Adult
education. Distributing Poppies, volunteering at Hospital and
Hospice
Centers
, mowing a lawn for a neighbor are all reportable. There are many others
things as well. By joining our
Organization, coming to the meetings if you choose, or by getting involved
with any part of what we do, and letting us know what you are doing, you
will give yourself an opportunity to feel enriched through the giving of
your time. Through your
membership you can receive a discount on several types of Insurance. There
are also discounts on prescriptions, moving vans, eyeglasses, rental cars,
hearing aides and many other services at no further cost to you.
Please call me at 207-252-7753 for more information, or stop in at
the Post or mail in a request to us at
96 Islington Street
,
Portsmouth
and ask for a brochure, an application and other information. Thank you!
The National Organization has been unable to contact any of the
following members of Unit 6. With
this fact comes the probability that the members are not receiving
anything that the Unit sends of them.
If you know any of these members, please contact them and ask that
they contact Karyl Horn or me so their addresses can be corrected and
forwarded to National. Gale
