THE FRANK E BOOMA POST 6

 NEWSLETTER

Founded 1919

 MAY 2006

 Commander -- Richard “Brooksie” Brooks

COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who not only came out and voted during this past election, but also had enough confidence in me to support and vote for me as your new Commander.

For all those who donated food for the dinner after the Installation, it was greatly appreciated and certainly enjoyed by ALL  -considering the fact this Installation had the largest member turn-out in participation in support of their Post for an Installation in District 3 - A BIG KUDOS TO POST 6!!  GO BOOMA!  All enjoyed the event and meal and I thank the Ladies Auxiliary for the great job they did in cleaning up after the affair.

For those who don't know me or my goals - I am a veteran of the Coast Guard having served for over 9 years, who is also a member of the DAV.  I clearly support the American Legion and I recognize that is time for Post 6 to focus on the interests of veterans.  My focus for this year will be to increase the membership, encourages participation in not only the Post, but also the Auxiliary and Sons as well.  I want to work closely with the leadership within the Post and the Grille as we focus to rebuild the relationship between the American Legion and the VFW so that we will no longer have that hidden "us" and "them" mentality.  Certainly our core values are the same:  For God and CountryLet us move forward to unite in body and spirit and let's get back to concentrating on the veteran and our community involvement!  Let's move forward & have a Blessed Year!

Eugene (Gene) Bragg, Post Commander

ADJUTANT’S MESSAGE

We are having problems with members and guests parking in the restricted area in the Post parking lot.  Please do not park in the spaces that are reserved for the Condo complex.  That area belongs to them.  The Post has an agreement with them that allows the Post membership and guests to use a portion of their land for parking.  If you do not respect their right to have those spaces reserved, they can call a tow truck and summon a police officer to have your automobile towed.

There will be a delegates meeting on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 6:30 p.m.  All Post, Unit, and SAL delegates should attend.

George McCall, Post Adjutant

 JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

I would like to start by thanking everyone for your votes.  I promise to promote quality events while adhering to sensible financial restraint.  The Children’s Outing will be held at the New Castle Commons, on Saturday, July 29, 2006.  There will be plenty of food, drinks, ice cream, games and lots of fun for our youngest family members.  We will have more info to come in the July bulletin.  Please feel free to contact me on any matter at (603) 997-1746.

Bob Fredette, Junior Vice Commander

 SERVICE OFFICER’S MESSAGE

The closing of the Manchester VA Hospital Emergency Room on the weekend has been put on hold.  The veteran organizations have been in Washington talking to Senator Sununu and he is working to keep the Emergency Room open 24/7.

The DAV needs volunteer drivers.  Many veterans do not have a means of transportation and cannot get to the VA hospitals and clinics.  The shuttle vans are their only way.  So if you have some free time and don’t mind driving, contact the DAV office located in the Manchester VA hospital.  The phone number is 1-800-8384, ext. 6427.

 Merton Mobbs, Post Service Officer

 Drew Hogan, SAL Commander

 SQUADRON ADJUTANT’S MESSAGE

As we start a new Legion year we had the Installation of officers on Friday, May 20th.  I hope to have the 2007 membership cards when I get back from the State Convention in June.  I also hope we will have more members coming to meetings and participating in many of the events put on by the Post, Auxiliary and S.A.L.  If anyone would like to donate some time fixing up some bicycles that were given to us, please contact any S.A.L. officer.  When the bikes are all fixed we will give them away to kids wishing a bicycle.  I wish you all a safe and happy summer.
