THE FRANK E BOOMA POST 6 NEWSLETTER Founded 1919 JUNE 2007 Commander -- Elliott Antequera COMMANDER’S MESSAGE Congratulations to all newly elected post, unit, and squadron officers. You are now a part of the history of Frank E. Booma Post 6, a post that has provided service to our veterans and the community of Portsmouth since 1919 (88 years). We as elected officers of Post 6 understand that our position in our organization carries duties, responsibility, and loyalty to our Post and its membership, these obligations we now assume. Responsibility for the success of our programs now rest on our shoulders and the only qualifications are honesty and willingness of that I am sure you all possess we carry out our duties they will reflect the composite personality of our members and how we are perceived in the community. Simply said, "We set the example." As your 68th commander, I pledge myself to the membership and I'm looking forward to working with you and encouraging participation in our programs. I am sincere in the acceptance of my duties and trust in all elected officers to do their part. Again, I extend my congratulations and wish you well as we assume the responsibilities of our office. Thank you and may we have a blessed year. Now the month of June is upon us and some of our members will represent our Post at the Department Spring Golf Tournament, June 3rd (rain or shine). We wish them luck and a good time. Also this month on June 15th, 16th, and 17th is our state convention. Our elected post delegates will be attending its meetings and returning back to the post with valuable information for all. Our state champion Color Guard will also be defending its title on June 17th and for guests and members who attend, the post will have a hospitality room for refreshments, snacks, and socializing. All takes place in at the Sheraton Tara in Nashua. New Hampshire. For more information and directions, contact the post. Come and support our Color Guard and have a great meal, Fish Fry Friday. June 1st, 4 till 7 pm, and don't forget every Saturday at 3 pm the best deal in town Surf and Turf. Come out and support your post. Tabs from aluminum cans are collected at the grill for patient time on a Kidney Dialysis machine - A good cause, bring in your tabs and give them to the bartender on duty. Attention all Post Members Nomination and voting for post vacancies for the office of Jr. Vice Commander, Historian, Assistant Service Officer, and 2 Audit Committee members will take place June 7, 2007 at 6 pm. Post meeting. Any interested candidates unable to attend the scheduled meeting must submit a letter of intent for the particular office desired. Only members in good standing and willing to serve will be accepted for nomination. Elliott Antequera, Post 6 Commander ADJUTANT’S MESSAGE This is the beginning of a new year for Frank E. Booma, American Legion Post and I am hopeful that this will be a good year. First I want to speak on the newsletter. It has not been received by the membership in a timely fashion in the past. As adjutant I take full blame for this. As of this issue all future newsletters will be mailed on time. There will be a lot of Legion functions coming up this year. These functions will be noted in the newsletter and there will be bulletins posted in the Post Home, so be sure to check the Post Bulletin Boards. From time to time I print in the Post bulletin that all Post, Auxiliary and Squadron members to keep their mailing addresses up to date. In the past year since the 2006 State Convention I have been mailing newsletters and membership cards and a lot of these are being returned. Reason being no forwarding address is sent to me. So please make certain in the future when you move to send an address change to your Post Adjutant, Auxiliary Secretary and/or Squadron Adjutant. Thanks. To all Post Delegates, you will be required to attend all your meetings at the State Convention, give a report on the meeting at your first Post meeting after the State Convention, and then give a copy of your report to your Adjutant or Secretary to be placed on file in the Post Home. SQUADRON ADJUTANT’S MESSAGE I wish all new Post, Auxiliary and S.A.L. officers a good and prosperous year. And I am looking forward to working with everyone. S.A.L. needs help running the Surf and Turf on the second Saturday of each month. If you are willing to help, see Commander Leo Peters or any S.A.L. officer. We still need members to pay their 2007 dues. I hope during Memorial Day that people remember our veterans, those that are dead and the ones still alive for giving us such a great country to live in. Bob Prendergast, SAL Adjutant ANNUAL CHILDREN’S OUTING The Children’s Outing will be held at the New Castle Commons, on Saturday, June 30, 2007. There will be plenty of food, drinks, ice cream, games and lots of fun for our youngest family members. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers are needed. See S.A.L. Junior Vice Commander Grant Bergeron for more information or to sign up to help. I would like to thank President Ella and the ladies of Frank E. Booma Unit 6 for the lovely testimonial and flat screen monitor. Thanks to the members of S.A.L. Squadron 6 for the generous donation to my president’s project, the NH Veterans Fund and to the members of Post 6 for paying for tickets and the hors d’oeuvres’. I am proud to say that I am a member of and belong to the Frank E. Booma Family. I would like to congratulate the newly elected officers of the Post, Unit and Squadron and pledge my support for the coming year as we work together for our veterans, our troops, our youth and in the community we live in. Karyl Horn, Department President 2006-2007 GRILLE STEWARD’S MESSAGE First I would like to say we had a great May! We had a Mother’s Day Brunch and it was fantastic! We gave away some gift baskets to some lucky moms and a gift certificate to Curves donated by Anne Sullivan. Thank you Anne. Ken Linguart cooked the breakfast and it was excellent. Many thanks go to Nan Milani, Karen Hemstrought, Sheila Katsonas, Grant Bergeron and Ellen Bergeron for their help. We gave away some t-shirts and hats for Cinco de Mayo. Fun was had by all. We have some new bands coming in the next few months, so come in and check them out! On June 9, 2007 we will have a Motown Night. Prizes will be awarded for the Best Funky Outfit. Bill Vendasi will be playing the tunes. Come check it out! On June 17, 2007 we will have a special buffet for the Fathers. So make sure to be here. The food will be available form 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Bring that special dad. From 4-7 p.m. Bill Loomis will be playing Doo Wop. Do not forget we always have free coffee and snacks, so come on in.
