THE FRANK E BOOMA POST 6

 NEWSLETTER

Founded 1919

April 2008

 Commander -- Frank Desper

COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

The memorial service held in Somersworth, N.H. Post 69 was very enlightening to say the least. I felt the emotions in the air as the departed Legion's member's name were read aloud. If you never attended this ceremony, I encourage you. Our State Convention will be in Nashua, N.H. this year. If would like to attend you do not need to be a Delegate. The meetings will be June 13th through the 15th. Next year's State Convention will be in Lincoln, N.H. If you wish to become a Delegate for next year's convention please contact the Post Adjutant. The family (children's) outing will be at Stratham Hill Park this year,  Saturday June 21St starting at 8:00 am. Contact the 2"d Vice Commander for more information. The adult outing is in the planning stages; keep an eye out for further information. For those of you who missed last year, the luau was a blast. This year, there's no telling when the fun will stop. I am in process of contacting descendants of Frank E. Booma for the ceremony in August. So far everything is still a go. Merton (Skip) Mobbs our Post Service Officer is out of the hospital and doing well. If you would like to see him or drop him a short letter, please do so. Our Flag Day Ceremony has faltered in the past due to the State Convention's schedule being in the same time frame. I will discuss this issue with the membership at our next regularly scheduled meeting (June 19th) as to when we will hold this auspicious occasion. I will get back to you next month with a date and time. The American Legion's motto is; "Still Serving America." Don't forget our POW's/MIA's still unaccounted for. I'm on the bridge,

Frank Desper, Post Commander

ADJUTANT’S MESSAGE

A meeting notice is being sent to all Post Delegates, concerning the up coming Delegate meeting. I would like for all delegates for the Auxiliary, Squadron and Post to attend this meeting.

The Post Consolidated report has been sent to Department. The report could have been better if all committee reports had been turn in as was requested at the Post meeting in April 2008.

I will expect all newly elected Post officers to be at the next Executive Post meeting in June. There is a issue I would like to discussed, that I feel is important.  There is an issue concerning veterans receiving medical care in the VA Medical System at present our Post has a member who is being denied medical service from the VA. This is unfair.  I am working on this issue with Department and I will be talking to our Washington Representatives, this is a nation wide issue and is being fought hard, to be changed by the American Legion. Wish me luck.

 George McCall, Post Adjutant

JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

The Children's outing is going to be on Saturday June 21, 2008. It will be held at Stratham Hill Park from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It will be at the back pavilion and we have a few surprises this year. We need volunteers to help setting up, working the event and cleaning up after.

The Adult event is in the works and I will have more information on that when things are decided.

As Commander Desper mentioned in the last newsletter, we are planning a celebration of the Post being established on August 9th at 12:00 (Noon) It would be nice to see a good turnout for this event.

Richard “Brooksie” Brooks, Jr Vice Commander
