THE FRANK E BOOMA POST 6
Commander -- Richard “Brooksie” Brooks
I want to thank everyone that helped at the St. Valentine’s Day dinner. We had first nominations for officers at the last meeting and we still have some positions with no nominees. We could use some interested parties to step forward and be present to be nominated at the next Post meeting on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 7 p.m. Recently we have had some controversy concerning the Grille. As a result of this, some members think there are certain officers trying to accomplish something against certain persons. I want to defend all the officers. For one thing, every officer and member has a right to their opinion whether you, I or anyone agrees with them or not. We can all disagree on issues but that should not affect our friendships with those people. Most people usually do what they believe to be best for the organization and not for personal interest. We have some events coming up in the near future. Please check the bulletin board in the Grille for dates. Some of these are Cribbage Tournament, Dart Tournament, Horseshoe Tournament, etc. If you have any questions, contact either myself or George McCall.
Richard “Brooksie” Brooks - Commander
At our last post meeting, the post held its first nominations for Post office positions for the year 2006-2007. The following post members were nominated:
The next nomination for Post officers will be held at the next Post meeting on Thursday, March 16. 2006.

There will be a banquet at the Cat & Fiddle Restaurant in Concord on Saturday, March 4, 2006. Tickets are $20.00. Tickets are available from the Department Vice Commanders and the Department Office. If you are interested in going you can contact the Post Adjutant.
Interpost Activities - The American Legion Department of NH is having a Cribbage Tournament on Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Post 7 in Rochester. Eligibility: All Legion, Auxiliary and S.A.L. paid up members who are 21 or older. Deadline: March 7, 2006. All applications shall be sent to Attn: Cribbage Tournament, Department of NH, The American Legion, 25 Capital Street Room 431, Concord, NH 03301. Accompanied with a check for $12.00 (per two person team) payable to the American Legion Department of NH. NO REFUNDS.
“Adopt a Vet” - At present our Post has five veterans living at the Veterans Home located in Tilton, NH. Last week I visited the home with a squadron member from this Post who wants to get his father into the home. The squadron member was very impressed with what he had seen at the home. We visited one of our members living there and had a long talk with her. She was glad to see us. I think we should start thinking about our members who are unable to come to the Post. I had a conversation with a staff member who informed us that they would transport veterans to our Post if we invite them. I want you to think about this and see if we can have some type of function here at the Post and invite some of these veterans to our Post. “Think about it”
George McCall – Adjutant

Hi Ladies – Last month we held our first monthly dinner and it was a success. Sue Desper cooked her delicious Shrimp Scampi Dinner. We thank her and her helpers Karen Hemstrought, Karyl Horn, Sheila Brooks, Shirley Williams, Pam Hicks and myself. Thanks also go out to Ruth Lane for the brownies, Shirley Calvert for the cake and to all those who bought dinners from us. On Friday, March 24, 2006 we will be having a Meatloaf dinner. For $6.50 you will get meatloaf with gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetable, rolls and dessert. We hope you will continue to support us so we can continue to make our programs successful. Our next Unit meeting will be Thursday, March 9, 2006 and we will be holding nominations for officers. So come out and nominate the women that you think will do the best job for your Unit. Anyone nominated must be present at the meeting, or a written letter of intent should be submitted to me prior to the meeting. Our Unit members are always busy promoting and helping our veterans in any way they can. Pam Hicks and my daughter Renee Cheatham from Ohio have helped the Post Color Guard with their fish fries. On February 6th members from our Unit went to a meeting for the 8/40 in Rollinsford. On the 10th members from our Unit went to the District 3 meeting in Seabrook. On the 11th Newmarket had their Initiation and Citation Night - Karyl Horn, Shirley Calvert, Shirley Williams and myself all took part. Commander Brooks did a very nice St. Valentine’s Day dinner, we thank him. Our thanks to Frank Daggett who was a good friend to our sister Betty Sanford in her last days. I hope you all have a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day
A Little Bit of News – Karyl Horn was installed as First Vce President of the State of New Hampshire in June of last year.
A Little Bit of History – So far we have had four Department Presidents out of this Unit. June Daley, Vivian Snow, Brenda Walton and Shirley Calvert and there will soon be five. . . . . . . .
Remember Ladies, “All for one and one for all. Together we stand, divided we fall.” Yours in friendship and service.

THANK YOU! I would like to thank all that helped at the recent St. Valentine’s Day Dinner. I had driven Brooksie to get some items on Sunday. Bill Phelps, who drove Brooksie around when I could not due to work on Tuesday. George McCall for coming to the Post at 6:30 p.m. to help with the clean up after having left Portsmouth at 8:30 a.m. for Jamaica Plains and having just returned. Shirley Calvert for setting up the tables and taking the monies paid by the gentlemen while she was also selling raffle tickets for the four St. Valentine’s Baskets that had been donated to the Unit as a fund raiser. Jim and Janice Bailey, Shirley Williams and Linda Verrill for helping with the clean up. I worked 11 hours that day and then helped with the clean up. But most of all I would like to thank Commander Brooks for not letting a long time tradition fall by the wayside and for cooking a delicious meal. I hope I remembered all that helped. If I missed anyone I apologize and thank you.
