THE FRANK E BOOMA POST 6

 NEWSLETTER

Founded 1919

March 2007

 Commander -- Eugene Bragg

COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

Most of you know we had first nominations for officers this past month and several of our comrades stepped up to the plate to bring their fresh outlook and expertise to a Post they call "home". We most certainly can use new perspectives, wisdom and dedication to all the positions and I am quite happy with the contenders for Post Commander and Senior Vice. I am confident that in either order that they may win, Elliott and Kenny will most certainly bring a “Dynamic Duo” to Booma and continue on with solving the challenges that wait ahead in the upcoming year 2007/2008.

This is most certainly NOT my “swan song” as they say, but I think to keep our Post moving ahead in a positive direction, both on a local and state level, we must not be afraid to embrace change. It is my belief that keeping anyone in office in any one position year-after-year, we do not open ourselves up to new ideas and we sometimes find ourselves blind to that which may be wrong around us by becoming remiss in the positions we are elected to.

Let me clearly state that it is my opinion that any late-comers who may toss their hat into the race for Commander certainly cannot bring to the plate what I think these two nominees do and Elliott and Kenny have my full support in pursuit of Commander and Senior Vice to continue to move this Post ahead at the momentum it is currently going. I look ahead positively as the Frank E. Booma Post continues to being committed to making our community a better place for all veterans!  For God & Country,

Gene Bragg, Post Commander

Text Box: NEWSLETTERS FROM THE PENTAGON
The Pentagon produces weekly products such as “Heroes in the War on Terror” found at http://www.defenselink.mil/home/dodupdate/For-the-record/index.html, and short pieces on humanitarian work performed by those in uniform around the world.  They hope to soon publish weekly in-depth pieces on Iraq and Afghanistan to capture elements of the war not often covered by the media.   They are updating their contact list to include more posts across the country in an attempt to inform more people about what is taking place in today’s military.  Their goal is to provide unbiased, unclouded views of what is taking place from original sources.  If you wish to receive these three weekly pieces, please let them know, and they will add you to their e-mail.

SERVICE OFFICER’S MESSAGE

As most of you know I have been in the hospital off and one for some nine months but things are looking up.  I intend to run for the office of Service Officer again.  In the past year I have learned a lot about this position thanks to George McCall.  To those veterans who need transportation to the VA Hospital for appointments please contact Roy at the Manchester VA Hospital.  The telephone number is 603-624-4366, ext 6427.  Call at least three days in advance.  He will see to it that a DAV van picks you up at your home, takes you to your appointment and return you to your home.

Merton Mobbs, Post Service Officer

PAST COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

Well the year is fast winding down and time for elections again. I would like to announce that I am running for Adjutant this year. This is a job that I held for 7 years prior to running for Commander. I enjoy the job and think that I have done a good job during those 7 years. I ask for your support this year in my endeavor to run for office. It had always been an honor to serve the members of this Post and represent the American Legion.  Thank you,

Richard “Brooksie” Brooks, Past Commander

 MARCH IS COMMUNITY SERVICE MONTH

 SQUADRON ADJUTANT’S MESSAGE

At the next SAL meeting on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 we will be having 1st nominations officers for 2007-2008 because the February meeting was cancelled due ht the snowstorm.  Second nominations will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 and elections will be on Thursday, April 19, 2007.  Anyone wishing to run, please be at the meeting or leave me a letter of intent for the office you wish to run for.  We need more people to get involved as an officer because the same people are getting tired of doing all the work and some people are not going to run for an office again.  We need new blood and ideas.  We also need people to work the SAL Surf & Turf on the second Saturday of each month.  Anyone wishing to help, please contact Commander Hogan or myself.

Bob Prendergast, SAL Adjutant

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hi Ladies – At our February meeting we voted not to have any more Auxiliary dinners due to lack of support.  My thanks to all the Auxiliary cooks, Gene Schmitz, Gene Bragg and all the Auxiliary members who planned, prepared, served, bought or made desserts for our dinners.  Thanks so much for your contributions in any form that you contributed.  Also at our February meeting we had a guest speaker to speak on Identity Theft.  She gave a very good presentation.  All who were present took home lots of important information.  I am enclosing her contact information so our Auxiliary members who did not attend can give her a call - you won’t be sorry - Barbara Moodie (603) 401-0920.  For more information, you can go to www.prepaidlegal.com.  I hope some of you attended the February District 3 meeting in Seabrook.  The next District meeting will be in Epping on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 7:30 p.m.  Hope to see some of you there.  At this month’s Unit meeting on Thursday, March 8, 2007 we will be holding nominations for officers for 2007-2008.  Please come and nominate some one who will represent you.  As of ye I have no volunteers as a replacement for Chaplain for the remaining of my year 2006-2007.  Anyone interested, please contact me.  Remember Ladies,  “All for one and one for all. Together we stand, divided we fall.”    Yours in friendship and service.

Ella Studrance, Unit President

SORRY – NO CHILDREN’S EASTER PARTY - SORRY

Due to the expense and time needed to treat the children to an Easter Party and Egg Hunt, the Children and Youth Committee has decided to cancel the Easter Affair this year.  The number of children attending and the volunteerism is at a low point at this time and the financial expense is high.  We are very sorry,

Tricia Buckman & Shirley Williams, C&Y Committee
