COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

VETERANS DAY 2006 & HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Please take some time this month to honor all the soldiers, airmen & sailors who have died on the ground, in the air and at sea and show your patriotism to those who have fought or are still fighting for our freedom today.

I will be contacting some military members in Concord this month to find out how we can get more involved in the support of those military members from the State of New Hampshire who are departing for service to Iraq and other 'hotspots' as well as greeting them upon their return home and thanking them for their service.

I want to thank all of you who volunteered for various events and came out to support their Post and their fellow Veterans this past month.  If your schedule didn't allow you time last month to volunteer, maybe this month in honor of Veterans Day you can find a few hours to volunteer here at the Post or at the Veteran's Hospital or the VA Home in Tilton.

Remember, Thanksgiving is coming and we have many things to be thankful for and there are those veterans who are in hospitals and in VA homes who are not as blessed as we are and it is our responsibility to reach out to them at all times, but especially during the upcoming holiday season.

 Eugene (Gene) Bragg, Post Commander

ADJUTANT’S MESSAGE

Another reminder to all Post members there will be a membership dues increase of $5.00 starting January 1, 2007, so please try to renew your 2007 membership before then.  Also I want to remind all Post members and their guests that you are not to park in the three reserve parking spaces; The Condo owns the land starting at the edge asphalt which is twelve feet wide and extends from the forward side of the dumpster to the fence at the rear of the parking lot. The Condo allows the Post members and their guest to park in that area all they ask is that we keep three spaces clear for them. I am asking all Post members and their guest to respect this arrangement, because the Condo has the right to have your automobile removed from those reserve spaces. Also they can refuse to let us park in that area.

NOTE: THE DEADLINE EACH MONTH FOR THE BULLETIN IS THE 21ST. FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN YOUR MESSAGE NOT BEING INCLUDED.

George McCall, Post Adjutant

JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

The Thanksgiving Dinner will, of course, be on Thanksgiving Day.  Turkey and all the fixings.  A lot of help will be needed for setup, cooking, serving, and clean up.  Please, if you can help, contact me in the Post or at 603-997-1746.  The American Legion Children’s Christmas Party will be on December 10, 2006.  Deadline for signup is Tuesday, December 5, 2006. We will be shopping on December 8th and 9th, 2006. Wrapping of presents will begin on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 5 p.m.  We have raised and appropriated $376.00 to send items to our local troops stationed overseas in the War on Global Terror.  We will be soon doing just that – more to come.  Remember to say a prayer for them.  If you have a family member that is currently serving in the War on Global Terror, we are now providing a space in the post to display their picture.  If you are interested, feel free to bring it to the Post. Yours in service.

Bob Fredette, Post Junior Vice Commander

Starting next month I am asking all veterans who will need transporting to and from VA facilities, to please contact the D. A. V. coordinator, at the Manchester VA Hospital. The coordinator will see to it that you get to the hospital, but you must let the coordinator know at least three days in advance. The telephone number is 624-4366.  If you have any problems, Post members can contact George.

PAST COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

I and the entire American Legion family express our sympathy and grief for the family of Michael Briggs of Manchester who gave his life as a Manchester Police Officer. I want to remind everyone that Tuesday, November 7, 2006 is Election Day. I encourage all to get out and vote. Our country has one of the lowest voter turnout rates in the world and the safest polling places. In many countries the citizens risk injury or death to exercise their right to vote. We take ours for granted. It is a sad documentary to the people of this country.

Remember, if you do not vote, you do not have the right to criticize the results of the elections or the job of the incumbents.  I attended the Fall Conference and learned some information that may be important to some members. Also, I have learned that some of our members may need assistance with prescription medication due to lack of health care, income restrictions, etc. There is help out there. If you have access to a computer, you may go to pparx.com or merck.com and they have programs that can get you free medication or reduced prices. I hope anyone that could use this will take advantage of it. I hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday season that is rapidly approaching us.

Richard "Brooksie" Brooks, Past Commander

SQUADRON COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

I want to thank all those who helped out at the SAL Haunted House.  The kids and adults all had a good time.  We will be having 1st nominations for delegates at our next meeting, November 15, 2006 at 6 p.m.  You should be there if you want to be a delegate.  Surf & Turf is every Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. with the Squadron hosting the event on the second Saturday of the month.  Please come by and help out or show your support.  Our next upcoming event is the Post sponsored Thanksgiving Dinner, as always your help is appreciated.  I hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving.

 Drew Hogan, SAL Commander

 SQUADRON ADJUTANT’S MESSAGE

Our meeting is the 3rd Wednesday of each month.  I hope that more members will attend.  The next meeting will be November 18, 2006 at 6 p.m.  At the next meeting we will be nominating delegates for the 2007 State Convention.  Upcoming events for SAL are the Thanksgiving Dinner in November, the Children’s Christmas Party and we going to adopt a family for Christmas.  SAL is still doing Surf & Turf the 2nd Saturday of each month.  We are always looking for people to help us out so that the same people do not have to do it ever month.  Our 2007 SAL dues cards are in.  You need to have your new card by December 31, 2006.  Get your card now before the holidays and you forget.  Get your card now and be an Early Bird.

Editor’s Note: I did not receive the SAL Adjutant’s message that was sent and due to deadlines, I apologize for anything missing.

Bob Prendergast, SAL Adjutant

Thanks to all that made our "Family Halloween Party " a success for the young ones of this Post. With crafts by Tricia, lots of apples donated by members of The Son of The American Legion, treats by Sheila Brooks, pizza and punch made for a fun day. Then to the "Haunted House", getting past the monsters that live there, to the witch for a goodie bag, made for a safe and fun filled party. Thanks to all that helped.

 GRILLE STEWARD’S MESSAGE

As many of our members know that frequent the Grille, we have a problem with the Jukebox and TVs.  We need you to co me to the Post meeting on Thursday, November 16, 2006 to voice your opinion to help solve this problem that has been going on too long.  Every Sunday we have a buffet during the football game.  Food donations are needed.  Check the Grille for that week’s theme.
