THE FRANK E BOOMA POST 6 NEWSLETTER Founded 1919 October 2005 Commander -- Richard “Brooksie” Brooks Commander’s Message I
want to thank all the members that came to the last meeting. I am glad to
see more members taking an interest in the business of the Post. I look
forward to seeing all of you at the next meeting. It is refreshing to see
more people getting involved and helping us out at our meetings. We need
this kind of involvement from our members. I hope we can count on you also
working on upcoming events. I want to congratulate the Post and Auxiliary
Color Guards on competing at the National Convention. We are proud of
them. We need more help from others for the Surf and Turf on Saturdays; it
seems to be the same people all the time from the three organizations.
We also need anyone interested in the Service Officer or Assistant
Service Officer’s position to please come to the next meeting or have a
letter of intent in so that we may elect these positions.
We have received donations of candy to send to New Orleans as
requested from members of the Air National Guard to be able to give out to
the children they encounter and they are on their way. I want to thank Cub
Scout Pack 164 for this endeavor. This is a group we have helped in the
past and they are helping us as a result.
The American Legion National Emergency Fund is being drained by the
disaster in New Orleans and will need donations to replenish it. Please
think about doing that. You may do that by going on line to Legion.org or
contacting either George McCall or myself.
I want to congratulate the Legion old timers for winning the old
timers game on Sunday September 18, 2005. Fun was had by all and Ruth
Menard should be the Most Valuable Player for the unassisted double play
she made.
We have Veteran’s Day coming up in October so mark that day on
your calendar.
Come join us on Sundays for our football games and food will be
available when the Patriots are playing. Check the newsletter for more
information. Richard
“Brooksie” Brooks, Commander Junior Vice Commander’s
Message First
of all, I would like to thank all of you who helped to make the Adult
Outing a success.
Once again our meal was catered by Sue Desper and she really out
did herself.
Our music this year was performed by Soul Mate and I am glad they
stayed and played since their lead singer Lisa was very sick but she still
sang very well.
For those who did not attend the Annual “Old Timers’ Game, they
missed a lot.
The American Legion won (22-2) but great plays were made by both
sides.
The V.F.W. (Ruth Menard) caught a line drive and then put out a
runner off guard at second base.
Great job Ruth!
And for those who don’t know the history of the Old Timers game,
it was started by our own Donald (Cappy) Capalare.
Since he is the oldest player we had that day, the youngest player
Nathaniel Nicholas III who is twelve years old pitched to him and yes,
Cappy hit the ball and made it to first base.
Although Nathaniel was the batboy, he did not officially play in
the game.
He only made those ceremonial pitches to Cappy.
In the last newsletter, I made mention of a possible hayride.
Unfortunately, those plans have fallen through and we will not be
having one.

Message First
I want to remind all Post officers to check their mailboxes.
When I receive mail for you I deposit it in your mailbox, so please
take the time to check your box.
Secondly, from time to time I put items on the bulletin board that
I feel might be of use to you, so please take the time and read those
notices.
Thirdly, there will be an important meeting for the delegates on
Monday October 17, 2005 at 6 p.m.
Please attend this meeting.
Fourthly, the Post has gained a lot of new members but we cannot
get members to run for offices or come to the Post meeting.
At present we have a membership of 754 members but we can hardly
get enough members to have a quorum.
To be vibrant we need new ideas.
This comes from members attending to a meeting and sharing their
thoughts on the different issues that come before the membership.
Please do not sit in the Grille during a Post meeting and then
after the meeting is over ask someone, who attended the meeting, what went
on. Come
to the meeting to get the information first-hand.
Lastly but not least, when you move do not forget to give me your
new address.
If you live in an apartment, please give me your apartment number
or otherwise the mail will not be delivered. George
McCall, Adjutant Sergeant At Arm’s

Message We had our first meeting of the year after a three-month lay off. We accomplished a lot including donating money for Katrina Relief and a needy Squadron member. Although our membership has increased substantially the members attending meetings has not. We try to keep our meetings from 30 to 40 minutes in the hopes that more members attend. If every member made an effort to attend a meeting every 2 or 3 months, it would be a big step to making Squadron 6 the best in the state. I hope to see you at our next meeting. Drew
