THE FRANK E BOOMA POST 6 NEWSLETTER Founded 1919 OCTOBER 2007 Commander -- Elliott Antequera COMMANDER’S MESSAGE
New Hampshire, Portsmouth and especially the members of Frank E. Booma Post 6 congratulate our Post Color Guard for representing our organization at the American Legion National Convention and bringing home from the Biggest Little City in the World (Reno, Nevada) two National Competition trophies, one in Military Open Eligibility and the other in Advancing and Retiring the Colors. These members have shown the dedication and discipline of true Champions. Dan Yoder, Paul Hollingsworth, Tony Lozada and Frank Desper delivered a well organized presentation, winning not only the approval of the judges but audience alike. Special thanks goes also to George McCall, Ella Studrance and Paula Hollingsworth. They inspected and maintained the equipment needed and most of all supported the team enthusiastically before, during and after the event. Mayor Steve Marchand of Portsmouth has issued a Proclamation for proudly representing the Veterans of the Portsmouth area and our entire community in this distinguished competition dated 17 September 2007. A JOB WELL DONE!
Our “Old Timers” have done it again winning our yearly softball competition with our brothers and sisters of V.F.W. Post 168 of Portsmouth. The game came down to the last inning but our Legionnaires, Auxiliary and Sons pulled through and kept the trophy at Post 6 where it has been for the last five years. Congratulations.
As I have said in the past, the success of our programs reflects the composite personality of our members and how we are perceived in the community. This month was GREAT. Lets continue and congratulations to ALL. Please check our calendar for meeting times and other events. Yours in Friendship and Service,
Elliott Antequera, Post Commander

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Congratulations to Lorraine Gordon. Lorraine is the Unit's newly elected Sergeant-At-Arms as of the meeting in September. The Unit still does not have an Historian. If you would like to have the fun of taking pictures and telling a story with them, please be at the October meeting and make your wishes known. Sunday, October 28 is the date of the Children's Halloween Party. You will find a sign up sheet in this Bulletin, please fill it out and turn it in to the bartender for holding behind the bar. If you would like to help with any upcoming event please let Janice Brown, Christine Harris, Karyl Horn, Lorraine Gordon or myself know. I am sure that Janice Brown, Grant Bergeron, Brooksie and their crew will ensure that the kids have a great time. This will enable the Unit to be more precise when spending your money. Cut off date for the Halloween Party is October 20, 2007. The first membership notice will be sent out by National in October. Send in your dues. All members who pay their dues before November 15, 2007 will be entered into a drawing for a donated prize. The Cherry Tree Fundraiser is looking for new or lightly used items to be donated. Contact Ella Studrance or myself with donations or to help with making the Cherries to go on the Tree. Many are needed. Date of this event is still to be decided. Remember the Unit meeting is Thursday, October 11 at 7:00 PM. The District #3 Fall Conference is Friday, October 12 at the Epping Post at 7:00 p.m. Please feel free to come to either or both meetings to see and learn of what is going on. These meetings are not just for the Officers of your Unit.
Delegates and alternates will be nominated and elected by ballot, at the regular meeting held on Thursday, October 11, 2007. Anyone nominated must be present at the meeting, or a written letter of intent should be submitted to President Sheila prior to nominations. Alternates shall have priority in the order of their election. Delegates are expected to attend the Department Convention, District #3 Fall Conference, Mid-Winter Conference, and the District #3 Spring Conference. Delegates are also encouraged to attend the District 3 Leadership School.

GRILLE STEWARD’S MESSAGE
There are so many people I want to thank for helping out with our events. I'm sorry I can not list all of you due to space restrictions, but I would like to thank Ellen Bergeron for hosting Sunday football, "The food is great" - keep up the good work!! Other volunteers helped cater some last minute events not advertised in September's newsletter, the events were, a glass raising toast to our Post Color Guard for winning two National Championship competition awards and to honor our Post Sergeant-At-Arms Dan Yoder, whom will be deploying to Iraq. We also celebrated those members whose birthdays were in September with cake and ice cream. If we missed you in the celebration have a happy belated birthday. In short, the whole month of September was a blast...
The Old Timers Game was awesome; the score teetered back and forth to end the game with a final score of 17 (Post 6) to 16 (VFW). Bev Stone managed our team and did a great job, thank you Bev. I would also like to thank the VFW Post 168 and Betty Berky for all the great food and hospitality after the game.
The Grille's not slowing
down yet, we're planning on a great Halloween party on the 27th.
The band for that night is Miraj. There will be costume judging for the
scariest, funniest and most creative. Judging will be at 10:00 p.m, there
will be prizes awarded to all winners, so come out and look your worst or
best. If you are interested in helping with the decorating of the grille
let me know. Again, I would like to thank everyone who helped, for
their hard work through volunteerism, every minute you give, helps our
Post be very successful. "Trick-or-Treat" Sue Desper, Grille Steward
