COMMANDER’S
MESSAGE
As the summer winds down, the fall and winter meetings will start
being scheduled. Please
consider becoming a delegate. Last
year we were entitled to nine delegates, however, some were unable to
attend the meetings and the alternates had to step up and I thank all of
you that did. Nominations and
elections for delegates occurred at our last meeting - eight members
stepped up to the plate to assume a delegate’s position.
We will be nominating one more delegate and possibly nine
alternates at our next meeting. The
membership strength dictates how many delegates the post is required to
send and I would like to be ready for the count this year.
The Fall Conference is Saturday,
October 3, 2009
being held at the
Laconia
High School
, registration time is 0800 and the meeting starts at 0900.
Check out the Adjutant’s message for more veteran’s
information. September was a
very busy month and I want to thank everyone who volunteered.
A great time was had by all who attended the Children’s Outing,
the Adult Outing and Old Timer’s game.
Unfortunately we had to turn over the “LaFrenier Trophy” to
Post 168 with a final score of 16 to 13.
I am still proud of the Frank E. Booma Post 6 players.
It was a good game and tough to surrender the trophy, we’ll bring
it back home next year. Just a
foot note, next year’s “Old Timers Game” will be the 50th
anniversary, we will plan on something BIG.
The Children’s Halloween party is coming up and then our
traditional Thanksgiving Dinner, please sign-up to help with these events,
check out the Junior Vice Commander’s message for more info.
While I’m on the topic of reading the different officers’
messages, please read the entire news bulletin.
All of the elected officials and management staff of the Post go
above and beyond their duties to provide you with valuable information
within these pages please take the time and read it.
It’s my sad duty to report that Jacob Bookholz (36 year member)
has been called by the Commander of us all, may his soul go marching on.
Frank
Desper, Post Commander
JUNIOR
VICE COMMANDER’S MESSAGE
The Adult Outing was on Saturday
September 12, 2009
lots of food, fun with a Super Surf and Turf, and even horseshoes in the
parking lot. A good time was had by all that attended, braving the rain. A
big thank you to all of the volunteers for their help in making this a
successful event. The Old
Timers Softball Game, American Legion Post 6 vs. VFW Post 168, was on
September 20, 2009
with full rosters for both teams. If you didn’t make it to the game you
missed one for the books, sunny weather, good spirits and camaraderie. The
score was close to the end in this long standing rivalry, and I have to
report that the trophy has moved to VFW Post 168, final score 13-16 –
VFW, the winner for 2009.
Children’s
Halloween/Costume Party will be held at the Post on Sunday
October 25, 2009
at
1:00 pm
. There will be games, treats and even costume judging for the children.
There is a sign up slip to leave at the grille, just for a number of
children planning to attend. We, the Post 6 Legion Family, will be looking
for volunteers to sign up to help out.

ADJUTANT’S
MESSAGE
I want to
start by welcoming the following new members to our Post, William Clark,
Charles Yankowy and Adam Smith.
This
year the legislature passed a bill that allows any honorably discharged
veteran to have a preference not to work on Veteran's Day without penalty
provided the employee gives advance notice in accordance with the
employer's policies and procedures. This does not mean the employer has to
pay the veteran for the day. Emergency
responders are the same except they must have another qualified responder
available. I need anyone that
is a snow bird (someone that moves out of state for the winter) to let me
know so I may make address changes for that period, I need your winter
address and your dates of stay there.
There is an organization called Freedom Flights that will transport
WWII veterans to
Washington
to see the WWII Memorial, this is free of charge to the veteran. For
further information you may contact me and I will forward the information
to you. I can be reached at the Post at
436-7575
, my cell phone at
207-252-7532
or by email to boomapost6@comcast.net.
I want to thank the members that have renewed so far. We are at
56.13% for 2010. If you have not renewed yet, please think about doing so
as soon as possible. We appreciate your membership and would like it in as
soon as you can. If anyone has
any membership concerns, do not hesitate to contact me at the above means
also. I am here to serve you in any way I can.
Richard
"Brooksie" Brooks, Adjutant

GRILLE STEWARD’S MESSAGE
Hello again, fall is here and September was a blast with our Adult
Outing being a success and the Old Timer’s game was a total blast.
Everyone played a great game and the trophy went to the V.F.W. -
congrats to them and their players. Everyone
is still talking about it and can’t wait till next year to play the 50th
Anniversary game - it will be a special one.
We have some great bands this month as well as karaoke so mark your
calendars. You don’t want to
miss out on a great time. We
will be having a Halloween Costume party on Saturday,
October 31, 2009
with money prizes to be given in three categories, scariest, funniest
and most original. Start
thinking now what you’re going to be.
We always have a great time. There
will be a buffet that evening free to members and their guests starting at
8:30 p.m. in the Grille. Judging
will be at 10:00 p.m. I would
like to thank the many volunteers who helped us make the adult Outing a
success, Trudy Huff, Cheryl Miles, Matt Karlson, Kelly Jenkins, Raquel
Guterez, Pam Mattingly, Karen Hemstrought, Grant Bergeron, Cindy Jackson,
Ellen Bergeron and our elite security staff, you know who you are!!
If I left anyone out, I apologize and thanks again.
Until next month stay safe and warm.
Sue Desper, Grille
Steward
UNIT NEWS
Unit
delegates and alternates will be nominated and elected by ballot, at the
regular meeting held on Thursday, October 8, 2009. Anyone nominated
must be present at the meeting, or a written letter of intent should be
submitted to President Sheila prior to nominations.
Alternates shall have priority in the order of their election.
Delegates are encouraged to attend the Department Convention, Department
Fall Informational Meeting, Mid-Winter Conference, District 3 Leadership
School and the Department Spring Informational Meeting and all Department
Convention sessions.
DONATIONS
NEEDED!
We are looking for non-perishable dry or canned goods for our Annual
Thanksgiving Basket Raffle which will be run next month.
A basket is located in the Grille by the bathrooms for you to place
your donations. Last year’s
raffle was a success for our Unit, let’s do it again.

Ladies – By now you should have received your first dues renewal
from National. If you have
sent in your 2009 dues, THANK YOU.
Dues are $15.00 seniors, $7.00 juniors and $20.00 new members.
Help Unit 6 by renewing today.
Be an EARLY BIRD, pay before October
15, 2009. Your name will
also be put into a drawing for one of two $50.00 gift cards to be drawn at
the Early Bird Dinner in October. If
you have any membership concerns or questions, feel free to call me. (603)
988-8267.
Karyl Horn, Unit Membership Chairman
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The first
meeting of the year was a success. Viola Levesque is the new Second Vice
President of the Auxiliary. Mariann Perreault is the Auxiliary Children
and Youth Chairman. October 15, 2009 is the last day to pay your dues and
have an “Early Bird” on your membership card. Being an Early Bird can
save you money at future events. Pay your dues before the 15th of October.
I would like to send out a big THANK YOU to all that submitted recipes
toward the Auxiliary Cookbook. However 12 recipes do not a Cookbook make.
A BIG THANK YOU to LINDA PERRY for her generous offer to publish the
Cookbook at NO COST to the Auxiliary. More than enough time has passed for
the membership to have followed through on their promises. The Cookbook is
now a dead issue. The Auxiliary has decided to hold a Children’s
Halloween Party even though the S.A.L. will not be building the haunted
house. The party will be Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the
second floor hall at 96 Islington Street. Fill out the sign up sheet
located in this Bulletin so that we have a head count for the party.
Sheila
Brooks, Unit President
