Come down the Portsmouth Middle School ball field to cheer when Frank E. Booma takes on Emerson Hovey in the Old-Timers Softball Game on Sunday, September 18, 2005 at 10 a.m.  Any member in good standing who is 40 or older may play.  The sign up sheet is filling fast.

In the planning stages for October, we are going to have a family haunted hayride.  There will be a sign up sheet at the Grille as soon as the details are finalized.

Adjutant’s Message

Well, I am back from Honolulu.  The trip was long but worth it.  I learned a lot while at the convention.  One of the most important subjects at the Legion general assembly was what the ACLU wants to do to our military cemeteries.  If they get their way, they will have all religious headstones and grave markers removed from all American military cemeteries worldwide.  I am asking you to contact your congressmen and senators and have them introduce a bill to stop this.  This can be done but you have to let them know how you feel concerning this issue.  The National Headquarters of The American Legion has gone on record to fight what the ACLU is trying to do.  At the next Post meeting there will be a discussion concerning the use of the televisions in the Post Grille.  Please come to this meeting, your input on this subject is important.  Also there will be an election of the position of Junior Vice Commander, Service Officer and Assistant Service Officer.

 George McCall, Adjutant

Service Officer’s Message

There will be a POW/MIA Vigil at the Tilton Veterans Home (at the Pavilion) on Saturday, September 10th and 11th.  Please try to come and participate in standing a 15-minute watch.

President’s Message

Aloha – Ladies can you tell that I have just come back from the American Legion Auxiliary National Convention in Hawaii.  What a beautiful place.  Karyl Horn, Shirley Calvert and I were all delegates to this convention and we came back with lots of information that we will be sharing with you at our regular meeting on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at 7 p.m.  We were not the only Unit members there – Shirley Williams, Brenda Walton and my cousin from Virginia were there as. Well.  Our Unit Color Guard was also there to participate in the National Color Guard Competition. They came in third place (way to go, ladies).  Ruth Menard, Dusty Richards, Patti Yoder and Patti Peters did us proud.  Do not forget the Adult Outing on Saturday, September 10, 2005.  Hope you all came out to vote on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 for the person you wanted for our Second Vice President.  At this writing, nominations were open.  A Little Bit of News – The Unit Color Guard had side arms in the competition instead of rifles and looked real sharp.  A Little Bit of History – Did you know that Brenda Walton was Unit President 8 times or more (way to go Brenda).  Hope to see you all in September.  Remember Ladies,  “All for one and one for all. Together we stand, divided we fall.”
