 NEWSLETTER

Founded 1919

SEPTEMBER 2007

 Commander -- Elliott Antequera

COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

There are many ways to determine if your Post is having a successful year and the one that stands out the most is its membership.  Membership that is active in Post activities, programs, community relations and the welcoming of new Veterans and their families to the American Legion.  Service to our Veterans begins with our Membership.  We should be initiating interest in the American Legion by simply communicating with Veterans and their families about the benefits of being a Legionnaire.  Membership is everyone’s responsibility.  Through communication and personal contact we can provide the service that veterans need and expand our great organization.  This should be our number one priority.  Renew your membership and sign up a new member.  Yours in friendship and service,

 Elliott Antequera, Post Commander

 JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

Due to the fact that the Junior Vice was elected late this year and the logistics of doing an adult outing with limited time, we will not be having one this year. In place of this we will be having a Luau on Saturday September 22, 2007 with a roast pig. All members are invited to attend this event. We will be having Soul Mate playing that evening. All are invited to wear the appropriate clothing. I hope we have a great turn out for this event; it is something different we are trying this year.

I want to remind everyone that on Saturday, September 8, 2007 to Sunday, September 9, 2007 the POW/MIA Vigil will be held at the NH Veteran's Home in Tilton from 1200 until 1200. It would be nice to see a good turn out for this event.  You need not stay the entire 24 hours but just show to stand one watch anytime. If you stay you may stand several watches but this is a great way to honor our POW/MIAs.

Richard "Brooksie" Brooks, Junior Vice Commander

 OLD TIMERS SOFTBALL GAME

The old timers’ softball game will be on Sunday September 16, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Parrott Avenue field. There is a sign up sheet in the Grille for anyone wishing to play and also a sign up sheet for anyone providing food for the game. All male players must be over the age of 40 years old to play in the game. Let's have a good turnout for this event.  Thank you,

Richard "Brooksie" Brooks, Junior Vice Commander

 ADJUTANT’S MESSAGE

At our Post membership meeting on Thursday, August 16, 2007 the members voted to change our meeting time from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.  This time change will be sent to District and Department Adjutants and they can notify their District and Department officers who desire to visit our Post on meeting nights, the time change of our Post meetings.

Our membership for 2008 is looking very good.  We are getting a lot of Early Birds.  If it seems that it is taking a long time to receive your 2008 Membership card, it is because I have been mailing a lot of “Continuous Member Certificates” to those who have been members of Post 6 for 5 years or more.  I am trying to play catch up mailing these certificates.  If you continuous membership to date is 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, etc, you will be awarded a Continuous certificate signed by the Post Commander and Post Adjutant.  This is done to show appreciation to you for being a member of the Frank E. Booma American Post 6.

The Post is now in the process of finding new ways to hold Post functions for the membership.  If you have what you think is a good idea, please contact the Post Junior Vice Commander Richard Brooks and/or the Grille Steward Sue Desper.

In closing, always remember an organization like ours is only as good as it members.  As a Post member you should make a concerted effort to attend Post membership meetings and give your input.  This can help make us a better organization in every way.  It is one thing to sit in the Grille during Post meeting night and another to attend the Post meeting.  Nothing good can be done to help the Post in the Grille – it has to be done on the Post floor.

George McCall, Post Adjutant

 SERGEANT-AT-ARMS’ MESSAGE

The Post Color Guard will be holding its monthly Fish Fry on Friday, September 7, 2007 from 4 - 7 p.m.

 Dan Yoder, Sergeant-At-Arms

 SQUADRON COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

First of all, I apologize to all S.A.L. members for not having a message in August bulletin.  The children's outing was very successful. I appreciate all the help we have had.  I cannot express my gratitude to all that have helped and you know who you are.  We also had for the P.O.W. monument a fundraising that was held at Rochester Post 7 by Past S.A.L. commander John Froehling - I cannot express enough my thanks to the American Legion Riders that were involved in this special fundraiser. I would like to thank the following members who went to Post 7 and helped out - Kenny Newport, Rick O'Brien, Grant Bergeron and myself. A special THANKS to John Froehling - Past S.A.L. Commander who organized this event.  I would also like to thank the Post 6 Color Guard for giving me the opportunity to participate with George McCall for pre-burial services for our fallen comrade Peter Pappas.  I wish the Color Guard well and safe trip as they go to National Competition to compete.  Yours in comradeship,

 Leo Peters, SAL Commander
